Written by Deborah L Chambers

Oh, Christian, you have a charge to keep,

Cast forth thy net, launch out to the deep.

Hold back in nothing, cut loose from the shore,

Lay hold on the hope that is set before.

In patience, Oh Christian, possess ye your soul;

Ever press onward towards Heaven’s goal!

God has much goodness for you,

If you will only stand firm and true.

Awake, Oh Christian! You’ve a charge to keep.

There is not time for slumber or sleep!

Lift up your eyes, look on the fields;

They’re white, and ready, a harvest to yield

The night soon cometh when no man can work,

While it is yet day, thy task do not shirk.

Work, Christian, work, while there is time!

Do not get drunk on the cares-of-life wine.

Be sober, be vigilant, be fervent in prayer;

By watching and praying, you’ll escape the snare.

Remember, Oh Christian, you’ve a charge to keep;

Cast forth thy net, launch out to the deep!
