Since its birth, the United States of America has gained the reputation of strength and ingenuity. America’s sustained ascension to a super-power took hard work and perseverance. This prodigious climb to greatness was not by chance. It was the result of a nation founded under God. Only from His blessing came innovation and success.
After being the greatest nation on the planet, why does it seem that the United States is slowing its pace? Why is more attention given to politics than progress? What is causing our country to divide against itself and cease to be what it was before? The answer is fear. In his 1933 inaugural address, President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes….”
We have witnessed this immobilizing fear in our communities. Men and women are now concerned with losing their jobs because of what they believe. They are reluctant to speak out at risk of offending and suffering the consequences. The crippling effects of a cancel culture have resulted in a society that is terrified to let their voice be heard. This has caused politicians to be easily controlled by a vocal minority, bringing our nation’s success to a grinding halt and putting our freedoms in peril.
Fear cannot become the new normal in America. If we become ruled by fear, we will no longer think for ourselves or stand for the freedom that was won many years ago. Instead, many “go with the flow” of popular opinion, much to our country’s demise. How can we conquer the waves of fear that threaten to overtake us? As a nation that was founded under God, we must be sure to truly live “under God.” Proverbs 29:25 says “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” In another scripture, II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear…” We need not succumb to rampant fear. We can rest assured, even in uncertain times, that God is in control. He will take care of us!
