Shared Ministry

In 2007, First United began its Shared Ministry program. Every member of the congregation was asked to serve on one of these ministry teams. Our shared ministry unit teams meet on the 3rd Sunday after worship.

The Education Unit provides opportunities for spiritual growth through education, fellowship, and mission. The organization and structure of this nurturing ministry promotes these aspects through planned programs and services including but not limited to the following:

    • Camps and Conferences
    • Vacation Bible School
    • Assist in Bible Study
    • New Members Classes
    • Confirmation/Communicants Classes
    • Youth programs
    • Historical Preservation
    • First United Scholarship Program
    • Interaction with Charlotte Youth Ministry Consortium (CYMC)
    • Interaction with the Presbytery of Charlotte Uptown Campus Ministry

The Worship Unit provides opportunities to enhance the worship experience by making our services more welcoming, meaningful and inspirational for the congregation and visitors. This unit promotes Christian stewardship of time, talents and support. It is responsible for these areas and ministries:

    • Dance Ministry
    • Music Ministry
    • Evangelism Programs
    • Stewardship Programs
    • Jazz Ministry
    • Budget

The Administration Unit is responsible for the management and coordination of church operations, office management and congregation interaction with staff and officers, and all church wide activities/events. Organizations that fall under this unit include:

The Christian Nurture/Service Unit has responsibility for Congregational Life Outreach and Pastoral Care. It promotes the spiritual fellowship of the people of God by providing opportunities for the nurturance of relationships between members. Promotes the ministry of care and compassion through outreach to members during times of change and stress to support, encourage and offer hope. It is responsible for ministries and areas related to:

    • Mission Opportunities (school supplies for First Ward Elementary School, Pink Sunday)
    • Health Service
    • Health and Fitness
    • Bereavement Ministry
    • Prayer circles
